What We Do
Beyond the Veil Doula Collective is a community for death doulas, family caregivers, end-of-life practitioners, and deathworkers who are ready to feel supported, resourced, and connected in their work. We are a network of independent practitioners committed to supporting one another.
We offer a death doula directory, a member portal with recorded meetings and a growing resource library, and monthly community gatherings to foster connection, collaboration, and professional growth. We are a new organization on track to operate as a nonprofit in the near future, allocating resources equitably among contributors as well as pro-bono doula services. All members are invited to participate in leadership meetings where we doula the collective itself, building our offerings and creating lasting professional and personal connections.
Deathwork can be beautiful—but it can also be isolating. We believe those who support others through death deserve to be deeply supported themselves, not just professionally, but personally and spiritually as well. This is a space where deathworkers can learn from one another, share lived experience, and have their cup filled by community care.
Whether you are a new death doula finding your footing and seeking mentorship or an experienced practitioner seeking community and collaboration, this collective offers a place to belong, grow, and be witnessed in your work.
We are building a more connected, resourced, and empowered field of end-of-life care together.
“Companioning is about going to the wilderness of the soul with another human being…”
-Alan Wolfelt, “Eleven Tenets of Companioning the Bereaved”
Each member of Beyond The Veil Doula Collective is professionally trained in providing end-of-life support, drawing from formal trainings, lived experience, and multidisciplinary education in fields such as Psychology, Nursing, Music and Fine Arts, English Literature, Intercultural Communication, and more.
In our work, we operate from a companioning framework, rooted in bearing witness and walking alongside another through death, dying, and grief. This framework shapes not only how we approach end-of-life care, but how we relate to one another within the collective. We are a practitioner-led organization, meaning the collective itself is actively tended by its members. Through shared governance and collaborative leadership, we engage in the ongoing work of shaping, sustaining, and evolving our community together.
Our focus is on building a culture of sustainability in deathwork—one that honors the emotional, relational, and professional realities of this field. We recognize that those who accompany others at the end of life require spaces of reflection, integrity, and ongoing development in order to continue this work over time. We are committed to providing sustainable and affordable community support and career development opportunities to those who walk alongside others in their sacred walk home.
