Death Cafe for Deathworkers
Tess Bloomer will be guiding our first death cafe of the year. This is a death cafe specifically for deathworkers — death doulas, caregivers, doctors, nurses, therapists, morticians, and any other professionals walking closely alongside death. As with all death cafes, this is a non-heirarchical space with no specific agenda or subject. In the spirit of the practice, we invite you to bring a cup of coffee or tea and something sweet to enjoy during our time together.
Quiet Company - A Collective Coworking Container
Ever feel like you just can’t seem to set aside time to work on your business? Needing some accountability to get a project done? Those scenarios are the reason we began offering Quiet Company - a weekly coworking space for bold ideas, creative energy, and the kind of momentum that only happens in community. During our 3 hour block, Magdalena will provide ambient music for your work and the chat remains open for peer support throughout our time together.

End of Life Doula Information Session
An end-of-life doula is someone who provides companionship, comfort, education and compassionate guidance to those planning for death, diagnosed with a terminal illness, or facing imminent death. Doulas offer nonmedical holistic support encompassing emotional, spiritual, and practical care. Doulas offer resources to help the dying person and their circle of care to make informed decisions in a supportive environment.
Come hear more about what an end-of-life doula can do for you or a loved one.
Space is limited; reservations required. Register by contacting Hearst Cancer Resource Center at 805.542.6234 or email at HCRC@commonspirit.org

Composting Grief
In response to the ongoing atrocities in the United States and abroad, Magdalena DeRosa has organized this community circle for Americans to compost their grief — using a ritual container to process the unconscious material present collectively so that it may create fertile grounds for life beyond current dysfunctional paradigms. This is not a circle just for those processing the grief of death, but for the collective grief which has no funeral.

Author Talk with Corinne Dempsey
For our second gathering of 2026, Beyond The Veil Doula Collective invites you to a book reading and author talk with Corinne Dempsey. She will be sharing about her latest book “A View From Life’s Edge: Discovering What Really Matters With Older Women Across The Globe”.
Corinne Dempsey is professor and chair of Religious Studies at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. She teaches on world religions, Hindu traditions, comparative mysticism, and war and peace in world religions. Her ethnographic research and writing has been with Christians in South India, Hindus in the US, spirit workers in northern Iceland, and most recently with women over 80 in California, Iceland, South India, and the Sisters of St. Joseph in Rochester. If asked, she would tell you that her most rewarding project so far has been her most recent one, in the company of older women.
Griefwalker Watch Party
For our first meeting of 2026, we invite you to grab some popcorn and get cozy for a matinee showing of Griefwalker featuring Stephen Jenkinson.
We will have time for a short discussion after the meeting.
